Step 1. Read the question precisely. Before reading the passage, identify whether the question asks what the passage states, what it implies, or what conclusion follows from the evidence. The word “suggest” in a question stem is a yellow flag. It invites prediction but does not authorize it.

Step 2. Find and boundary-test the relevant evidence. Locate the exact lines the question references. After reading them, ask: what does this passage say, and where does it stop saying things? Draw a mental line at the passage’s last explicit claim. Anything beyond that line is unsupported.

Step 3. Form a bounded prediction before reading choices. Predict the answer in your own words. But deliberately constrain the prediction to only what the passage directly states or implies. If your prediction requires an extra inferential step, flag it. You are already at risk of selecting an unsupported answer.

Step 4. Test each remaining choice for a citation. For any choice that sounds reasonable, ask: “Which exact line in the passage authorizes this?” If you cannot point to a specific line, the choice is unsupported. Eliminate it. However logical it seems.
