Gangnam Prep was founded on a single, hard-won insight: the SAT is not a knowledge test — it is a logic exam with a very specific structure. The students who master that structure outperform students who simply study harder. Every element of our methodology flows from that principle.
Before founding Gangnam Prep, Olivia Bang trained and taught at two of Seoul’s most prestigious test prep institutions — Hackers Academy and Ivy Plan Academy — where the culture of academic rigor, systematic methodology, and obsessive attention to student outcomes shaped everything she would later build in California.
“Korean academies don’t teach students what to think — they teach them how to think. That’s the difference between memorizing answer patterns and actually mastering the exam.”
After returning to the United States with a Johns Hopkins degree in International Relations and Economics, Olivia brought that methodology to the San Gabriel Valley. What started as one-on-one tutoring in Diamond Bar grew into Gangnam Prep — a full-service Digital SAT program serving students from Diamond Bar, Walnut, Brea, Fullerton, and across the region.
Over 17 years, Olivia refined two proprietary frameworks — the Logic-First Framework™ and the 3-Round Scan & Strike™ method — that have produced consistent 200+ point improvements for students targeting the most selective universities in the country.

B.A. in International Relations & Economics. Developed deep analytical reasoning skills that would later form the intellectual foundation of the Logic-First Framework.
Hackers & Ivy Plan Academies
Trained and taught at two of Korea’s most elite test prep institutions. Absorbed a culture of systematic, methodology-driven instruction that prioritizes reasoning over memorization.
Gangnam Prep Founded
Launched in Diamond Bar, CA with a focus on bringing elite Korean academy methodology to Southern California’s most competitive student population.

Fully transitioned to the Digital SAT with proprietary Bluebook-aligned curriculum. Serving students across the SGV and North Orange County with 17+ years of specialization.
Drive Every Session.
Reasoning Over Memorization
Most test prep teaches students to recognize answer patterns. We teach them to reason through questions from first principles. Pattern recognition breaks under pressure. Principled logic doesn’t.
Precision Over Volume
Doing more practice problems isn’t the path to a higher score — doing the right practice with the right analysis is. Every drill is targeted, every debrief is structured, and every hour is deliberate.
Structure Removes Anxiety
Test anxiety is almost always a symptom of inadequate structure. When students have a reliable system for every question type and every timing situation, confidence follows automatically.
Thousands of Points.
These are the tools we’ve refined over 17 years of full-time SAT specialization. They are not borrowed from elsewhere — they are Gangnam Prep’s.
The SAT is testing a specific set of logical skills — not content knowledge. Every question has a logical core that, once identified, makes the correct answer unambiguous. We train students to find that core on every single question type.
Identify what the question is actually testing (not what it appears to ask)
Apply the relevant logical principle — not a memorized pattern
Eliminate distractors using the same principled reasoning
Confirm the answer against the question’s logical requirement
Pacing failures cost students 50–100 points on a well-prepared test. This proprietary three-round approach to each module eliminates that loss entirely — structuring every minute for maximum point capture.
Scan: Move through the module quickly, answering only certainties. Flag everything else.
Strike: Return to flagged questions. Apply Logic-First reasoning under reduced time pressure.
Review: Final check on shaky answers. Confirm, adjust, or trust initial instinct.
Genuinely Different.
Proprietary Methodology, 17 Years Refined
Every technique we use was developed and iterated over 17 years of full-time SAT specialization — not licensed from a national franchise or assembled from generic materials.
Standardized Curricula
National chains use the same curriculum across thousands of students regardless of school district, academic profile, or target score range.
100% Digital SAT — Built for Bluebook
We transitioned fully to the Digital SAT format the moment it launched. Every drill, mock, and strategy session is built around Bluebook’s adaptive structure, interface, and question bank.
Recycled Paper-Era Content
Many tutors and programs still rely on pre-digital SAT materials that don’t reflect the adaptive module structure students face on actual test day.
Diagnostic-First, Not One-Size-Fits-All
Every student begins with a full diagnostic. We never start instructing before we know exactly where the points are being lost — and why.
More Practice, Same Problems
Assigning more practice problems without a diagnostic-driven analysis of why a student is missing questions produces marginal score gains at best.
