- Too broad โ overgeneralizes beyond the text

- Plausible but unsupported โ could be true, but the passage doesn't say it
- Right content, wrong context โ real passage detail used in the wrong place
- Factually true but not stated โ accurate in the real world, never stated by the author
Once a student can categorize wrong answers rather than just eliminate them by feel, their accuracy on the hardest question types improves dramatically. This is the difference between a 1380 and a 1530.
3-Round Scan & Strike Method

- Read the question before the passage โ knowing the question type changes what you look for in the text
- Use structural signals to locate the answer zone โ transition words, colons, dashes, and italics all point toward where the answer lives
- Form an independent answer before looking at the choices โ pre-answering in your own words prevents wrong answer choices from distorting your thinking
