The Logic-First Framework™: What San Diego Students Learn

Every Digital SAT Reading question belongs to one of eight question types. Most San Diego students arrive at Gangnam Prep having never been taught this taxonomy — they approach all 27 questions in a module with one undifferentiated strategy. That ceiling is predictable and breakable.

The Logic-First Framework™ assigns a distinct approach to each question type:

• Vocabulary in Context: The answer is always the secondary, contextual meaning — never the dictionary definition. Students learn to cherry-pick the context clues and predict their own word before checking it against the choices, selecting the one that preserves the author’s exact argument.
• Text Completion (“Which choice most logically completes the text?”): The blank always continues a logical thread already established in the passage. Students identify the direction of the argument (contrast, causation, elaboration) before looking at the choices.
• Supporting & Undermining: The evidence must address the specific claim in the question — not the general topic. Students learn to match the scope of the evidence to the scope of the claim before selecting.
• Function / Purpose: Students describe what the sentence does in the argument, not what it says. The answer is always about rhetorical role — introduces, concedes, qualifies, concludes.
• Graphs & Charts: The data must support the specific claim in the question stem, not just be related to the passage topic. Students practice reading the exact claim before touching the graph.

The 3-Round Scan & Strike™ Method

Time management is the second most common source of score loss on the Digital SAT — after wrong-answer selection. The 3-Round Scan & Strike™ method is Gangnam Prep’s proprietary pacing protocol, built specifically for the 32-minute SAT Reading and Writing module.

• Round 1 (approximately 14 minutes): Move through all 27 questions. Answer only those where you are fully certain. Skip everything else without stalling. The goal is to bank every easy and medium question without spending time on the hard ones.
• Round 2 (approximately 10 minutes): Return to every skipped question. On a second pass, the specific detail that was invisible in Round 1 is now findable because you know exactly what to look for. Cherry-pick the relevant evidence and apply the Logic-First Framework™ framework for that question type.
• Round 3 (approximately 8 minutes): Final resolution pass on any remaining open questions. By the third pass, you have seen every question multiple times — repeated exposure forces you to notice things earlier passes missed.

The non-negotiable rule: students never stall on one passage. If a passage isn’t yielding after 45 seconds, skip it and return in Round 2. This rule alone is responsible for a significant share of the pacing gains Gangnam Prep students experience in the first few sessions.

What San Diego Families Should Know About the Digital SAT

The Digital SAT is adaptive: Module 1 performance determines whether a student is routed to a harder or easier Module 2. Only students who reach the harder Module 2 can score 700+ on Reading and Writing. That routing decision is made entirely by Module 1. The 3-Round Scan & Strike™ method is specifically calibrated to protect Module 1 performance — ensuring that no careless skips or time-panicked guesses compromise the routing decision that sets the scoring ceiling for the rest of the test.

Note for San Diego families: all University of California campuses are fully test-blind. SAT scores do not factor into UC admissions decisions. For students applying primarily to UC San Diego, UCLA, or UC Berkeley, the calculus on SAT investment is different. The score matters most for private university applications — USC, Stanford, NYU, Boston University, Notre Dame, Georgetown, and comparable institutions.
